Submission to Their Husbands
Submission is God’s ordinance for married women. God’s design for a happy, healthy marriage is for the wives to be in submission to their husbands who are the head of the family (Ephesians 5:23). This is not some ancient idea that can be easily tossed aside because of what century it is. This is instituted by God for a reason. He wants complete harmony and order to exist in marriages. For that to happen, there can’t be a competition between husbands and wives for authority. Naturally, God does not want wives to be silent, but respectful in giving their opinions.
Ephesians 5:22 says “Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord.” And in 1 Peter 3:1-2 “wives, be subject to your own husbands, so that even if some do not obey the word, they may be won over without a word by the conduct of their wives, when they see your respectful and pure conduct.” Colossians 3:18 says “Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord”. To take this to a higher level, we are all to “submit to each other out of reverence for Christ” (Ephesians 5:21).
